A WOOLSEY WEEKEND
But John Jennings Stops Kit's Sweep In The Michigan Masters |

At one point during the Michigan Summer Championships, backgammon and bridge author/analyst Kit Woolsey of Kensington, California was alive and in the money in the Masters, Open, and Doubles events. It was clearly going to be his weekend. The only question was how many sacks would he need to carry away his prize money?
Carol Joy Cole and a very capable staff ran the annual Independence Day weekend tournament at the Sheraton Novi Hotel 30 June4 July. There were 162 main event participants, down 10% from the previous year, but still a solid showing. Kit, the world’s #13 Giant of Backgammon rolled through the tournament on skill and outstanding dice. In the Open event, he blew out Neil Kazaross and Bill Davis to win the undefeated sheet. eXtreme Gammon rated his luck advantage near six in both matches. But this was a true double elimination tournament, so whoever survived the one-loss bracket would still have a shot at him. |
