2009 Midwest Backgammon Championships

EVENTS

3-FLIGHT TOURNEY. The CHAMPIONSHIP ($275 - 85% return), ADVANCED ($125 - 80% return) and LIMITED ($30 - 75% return) divisions consist of a Main and Consolation Flight with a Last Chance on Sunday. Main Flight losers will be progressively entered into the Consolation based on their number of previous wins. Last Chance pairings will be determined by public draw.

Tournament prize money will be allocated accordingly: Main - 65%, Consolation - 25%, Last Chance - 10%.

The GRAND CRYSTAL BEAVER XI ($600 - over 90% return) is open to 12 players at the $600 level (who begin play at 7:00 pm on Friday) and 8 players at the $300 level (who begin play at 5:00 pm on Friday) who will fight for the final four spots at 7:00 pm. All 11-point matches with clock available.

LOOK! The MIDWEST CHILDREN'S TOURNEY ($10 - $400+ IN PRIZES) is open to 32 youngsters aged 8th grade or under (no high school students). This is a 2-flight tournament that should be finished on Saturday. Prizes: 1st Main = iPod Touch. 1st Consolation = iPod Shuffle. Gold and Silver coins will be awarded to the runner-up in each flight.

NACKGAMMON ($40 - 85% return). Players start with four men on their 6- and 13-points, three men on their 8-point, and two men each on their 23- and 24-points. All 5-point matches with the cube.

QUICKIE TOURNAMENT ($20 - 85% return). 2-point "Quickie" matches will be held beginning at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, March 23 and continuing throughout the weekend. Prizes with a full 128-player field will be: 1st-$1200, 2nd-$576, 3rd/4th-$200 each. Reentries encouraged.

8TH BACKGAMMON BATTLE OF THE SEXES ($40 - 85% return) In this event, up to 32 women enter on the top half of the drawsheet and 32 men on the bottom. The women can be any age, but the men must be 50+ to enter. Roz Ferris is defending champ. The fun begins Friday, March 20 at 5:00 pm. All 5-point matches.

The MIDWEST DOUBLES tournament has two divisions: OPEN ($160 per team - 85% return, with an optional $40 side pool) and INTERMEDIATE ($80 per team - 85% return with an optional $20 side pool; beginner & intermediate players only). Both events are single elimination with no reentries and roll off Friday at 7:30 p.m. Entry limitations: Open Doubles--32 teams, Intermediate Doubles--16 teams.

The PURPLE HAZE BLITZ tourney ($30 - 85% return) will consist of sixteen 8-player knockouts held throughout the weekend. 5-point matches. Each knockout winner receives $100, and qualifies for Sunday's Blitz playoffs. Remaining prize money is "Winner Take All." PURPLE HAZE BLITZ BONUS: Pay $33 to enter (with $3 going to the ACS). If you win the Blitz tournament, you will receive a GOLD COIN!
